THE POWER OF REMEMBRANCE

'Remembering is living'... Without a doubt it is, and I do not say it only because of the experiences and opportunities we have had in life that allow us to fill our memories, it is because of what memory generates in your physiology and in your state of mind. As memories are part of the range of Windows we have in our minds, they also contain a lot of power.

As I mentioned in previous posts about mindfulness, the power of our mind is something almost incredible, that power is in the ability to create and destroy, to ally and enmity, to love and hate. It all starts in our mind, so the importance of paying close attention to what happens in it.

The power of memories is a very particular one, for they can take you from a state of ecstasy to one of deep pain, and in a shorter span of time than it may take you to read this entry. Our memory is flooded with images, people, sounds, conversations, moments that have a great power over our mood and what happens in our present reality.

If I ask you to remember the moment when one of your relatives or someone very close to you died, in which you lost your beloved, in which you received a terrible news your mind will begin to work, and it will fill you with the images that your memory associates with those memories. Positive memories work the same way, remember your first kiss, the first date with your partner, having met that person you admire, that movie that made you laugh so much with your friends... Did you feel the change?

Although I made an express request that you do the exercise of remembering those images, your mind just by reading it brought you to an exact and precise point in your past, which changed your mood to some extent, altered your thinking. As you read this post I made your mind through many images and sounds that took you back to the past and made you feel a world of feelings.

"The memory is the diary that

we all carry with us."

Oscar Wilde

The power that exists in Memories is that: being able to change your moods, and they come out afloat not only when someone asks you to remember something specific, they do it through a song, a smell, a TV show, a place.

As an exercise I invite you to remember, to feel what you bring to your mind and to feel what really happens in your body when you do it, how your posture changes, your breath, your face. Whether your memories are positive or negative, they will help you identify which ones have the most power over you.
