If you ever had the opportunity to see a cut tree, you surely noticed the rings that form the trunk. Each of these rings represent the maturity and age of the tree, each of them shows the resistance of a tree that survived, and that thanks to that experience, is now more robust, stronger. People also go through these growing seasons.
With each seed a new life starts, the process of growing a tree, an idea, a project, a new plan begins. She will only germinate with proper care, that tree she longs to be will only be if the seed falls into fertile soil. In the first days will come difficulties, being the first to find that piece of land that embraces the tree and lead it to be its best and imposing version. From that seed then Roots will be shed that fulfill the purpose of bringing the nutrients from the soil to where they will fulfill a greater purpose: to properly feed the seed so that the tree that comes out of it, is strong.
With the going of time, the seed will cease to be that small piece of existence, will turn to be a tree, which will grow to be more than part of the landscape, it will be home to animals and insects, it will be a shadow in the hot summer days and a source of oxygen, without which we could not live. Throughout this process each change of season will present our protagonist with new challenges, which he will face every four or six months -or every year- approximately.
With each step of the season, the tree will thicken and strengthen, this to prepare it for what comes in its long presence on the Earth. The thicker trees have more layers covering their center, these are the ones that have had to endure the change the most, each of those changes is a season of difficulty.
To be able to see with certainty how many growth rings a tree has we would have to cut it because all the change is inside it, what covers it is only representation of everything it has had to go through. Each of those rings is the tree's way of saying that it is ready for what is to come, that its challenges have been strong, but that it has managed to carry them in a way that has only managed to strengthen it.
In this sense human beings go through life in a way very similar to trees, and if we wanted to see it that way, our dreams and goals too.
"Whenever there is a challenge, too
there is an opportunity to face it,
to demonstrate and develop our
will and determination.
Dalai Lama
Surely you have heard -or said - this at some point in your life: "I am going through a very difficult time." Or this: "I'm on a bad run" If we see it in a different way, these are more than difficult times, these are growing seasons. Consider these your rings, those that show that you have gone through a bad moments but that it has not managed to bring you down, that is to say that every situation of difficulty that you have gone through until today has left in you experiences and with them come the Rings of growth.
These moments can also be in your dream or project, every time that goal looked distant and far from you, that seemed to stay in just a longing, but that after going through that storm has left you many teachings has put a growth ring in the trunk of that tree that we call dream or goal.
The most robust trunks are those that have gone through many growing seasons, and there is something that sets them apart from the rest of the trees, their ability to resist those moments to learn from them and continue to strengthen. Your life and your dreams are like a tree, which by going through a few growing seasons will manage to strengthen and grow.
