ATTENTION IN DISTRACTION

One of the most complicated parts of getting a mind over which we can have better control - until we reach absolute control - are the distractions that can come with the day to day, the noise, the people, jobs, tasks and thoughts that always walk in our mind. However, paying attention to distractions can be a powerful weapon to change the way we think.

It is increasingly difficult to keep our mind in control; we have concerns of any kind, an almost infinite rain of information that reaches us in audiovisual form, whether through television, radio or in the form of publication on social networks, conversations of others and our own, the noise of cars and traffic, and many other possibilities. Keeping a calm mind and positive, clear and visualized thoughts is a complicated task, but not impossible.

Is it easy to get out of all these distractions? No, it would be a task with many complications that would involve in a great sense disconnecting from the current world and isolating yourself in the solitude and peace that could be found, perhaps, only in a monastery, however having greater mental control implies knowing how to disconnect distractions as well.

Part of the great challenges of developing a higher state of mind, which extraordinary people have managed to have, and which brings them to that state, is to be in the ability to disconnect distractions and unhelpful thoughts from the mind to focus the mind on what is really valuable, productive and constructive.

Entering a real state of meditation is complicated, however starting to play with distractions as part of the session allows you to know what are the challenges that are in these obstacles. Meditating in an environment of distractions - and indeed maintaining mind control despite distractions-helps us not only strengthen our mental exercise, but also to know how committed we are to keeping our thoughts at peace and cultivating the strengthening of our power over our mind.

In moments of meditation - or at any time - distractions are present, learning to play with them and understand them allows you to know them and disperse them. in that sense to pay attention to distraction is to enter a familiar scenario that is not so much and that helps to know the challenges that do not allow us to have our thoughts calm.

"The goal of meditation is not to get rid of thoughts or emotions. The goal is to be more aware of your thoughts and emotions and learn to move through them."

Dr. P. Goldin
